COPA College

  • COPA College has been successfully delivered in Toronto by Community Outreach Programs in Addictions (COPA) for nearly two years in a variety of community settings, including long-term care homes, a hostel, a drop in centre, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Toronto Community Housing Buildings and in supportive housing.

  • At the beginning of each semester, participants are given a letter of acceptance and a curriculum package, which includes a course outline detailing which topics, will be presented throughout the eight weeks. Participants are actively encouraged to suggest future session topics, lead a session on a topic of their choosing.

  • In one of the last sessions of the semester there is a ‘Reflections’ session, during which participants are asked for their feedback both on what they have learned throughout the semester and how they have changed their behaviors based on what they have learned.

  • In the last session a graduation ceremony is held and participants are presented with a certificate of completion, their reflections are reviewed and they are given feedback from the course instructors.
