Dr. Sarah Saunders is better known as simply 'Sally' the woman who moved mountains to change addictions treatment systems for the better! Her enormous determination, and unending amount of quiet persistence led to the establishment of COPA. By drawing on her years of clinical experience, Sally developed a clear vision of the principles on which the organization is now based and put them in action.
As part of her quest to found COPA, Sally worked hard to stimulate, and support the enthusiasm of others to help make her vision a reality. As a result, there are many people who have contributed toward the development of COPA – most of these people being recruited directly by Sally (who wrote the book on the art of gentle persuasion!). Through persistent efforts she and her staff made things happen for COPA and in fact, her influence is still felt today even though she has is now working with Oasis House in Utterson, Ontario.
The growth of our organization, and the growing reputation of our approach to treating elderly substance abusers is no small feat. Sally's vision and sound clinical knowledge convinced nay-sayers during COPA’s early days when community awareness regarding the needs of this segment of society was minimal at best.
Sally’s full time work with COPA lasted for six years. When she made the difficult decision to move on, it was decided to grant her the title of Founding Director so that her legacy and expertise, could live on and continue to guide the organization.
